Duck Island Britomart

Britomart, Auckland

Duck Island’s Britomart store began with a full demolition, giving us a clean slate to reinterpret the brand in one of their smallest sites yet. With only a few square metres to work with, the layout became a careful puzzle – fitting the counter, chiller, storage and circulation into a plan that still felt calm, functional and distinctly Duck Island.

The blush-pink tiled counter and rounded back-wall signage anchor the space as the key brand moments, scaled precisely to suit the tight footprint. Seating needed to encourage brief stops rather than lingering, so a slim banquette and timber leaners create a soft pause without overwhelming the floor.

The new globe pendants are the signature move. Visible from the laneway, they cast a warm glow that draws people in and give the store its inviting presence after dark. Together, the lighting, counter and signage create a compact but unmistakable Duck Island experience – warm, efficient and crafted for its urban setting.
